STMicroelectronics recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and a separate layer for the high-voltage power supply. The layout should also minimize the loop area of the high-frequency current paths to reduce EMI.
To ensure reliable start-up, make sure the input voltage is within the recommended range, and the input capacitor is properly sized. Also, ensure that the soft-start capacitor is correctly sized and the soft-start time is sufficient to allow the IC to start up smoothly.
