  • STMicroelectronics recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and a separate power plane for the high-voltage section. The layout should also ensure minimal parasitic inductance and capacitance.

  • To ensure reliable start-up, ensure that the input voltage is within the recommended range, and the input capacitor is properly sized. Also, add a soft-start circuit to limit the inrush current during start-up.

  • The maximum allowed voltage on the VCC pin is 28V, but it's recommended to keep it below 25V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the device.

  • Use a voltage supervisor or a overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit to detect and respond to overvoltage conditions. For overcurrent protection, use a current sense resistor and a comparator to detect excessive current.

  • Use a heat sink with a thermal resistance of less than 10°C/W, and ensure good airflow around the device. Also, consider using a thermal interface material to improve heat transfer between the device and the heat sink.
