The UC3906Q requires careful layout and placement to ensure proper operation. TI recommends placing the IC close to the input capacitors, using short traces, and separating the input and output sections to minimize noise coupling. A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane is also recommended.
The input capacitors should be selected based on the input voltage, current, and frequency. TI recommends using low-ESR capacitors with a voltage rating of at least 1.5 times the maximum input voltage. The capacitance value should be chosen to ensure that the input ripple voltage is within the specified limits.
The UC3906Q can deliver up to 6A of output current, but this is dependent on the input voltage, output voltage, and thermal conditions. TI recommends derating the output current based on the ambient temperature and using a heat sink if necessary.
The UC3906Q has a built-in overcurrent protection feature that can be enabled by connecting a resistor between the OC pin and ground. The value of the resistor determines the overcurrent threshold. TI recommends using a resistor value that sets the threshold to 1.5-2 times the maximum expected output current.
