  • The maximum voltage rating for the UC3844D is 30V. However, the recommended operating voltage range is 12V to 28V.

  • The oscillator circuit resistor values (Rt and Ct) depend on the desired switching frequency. A good starting point is to use the values recommended in the datasheet (Rt = 10kΩ, Ct = 3.3nF for 250kHz). Adjust these values based on your desired frequency and ensure the oscillator is stable.

  • The soft-start pin (SS) is used to gradually increase the output voltage during startup, reducing inrush current and electromagnetic interference (EMI). Connect a capacitor (typically 10nF to 100nF) from the SS pin to ground, and a resistor (typically 1kΩ to 10kΩ) from the SS pin to the output voltage. This creates a voltage ramp during startup.

  • To ensure stability, follow the datasheet's recommended layout guidelines, use a stable voltage supply, and decoupling capacitors. Verify the oscillator is working correctly by measuring the voltage on the Rt pin, which should be a triangular waveform. If the oscillator is not stable, adjust the Rt and Ct values.

  • The maximum current rating for the output stage (source and sink current) is 1A. However, the recommended operating current is typically limited by the application's thermal and power requirements.
