TI recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and placing the IC close to the input capacitors. Also, keep the high-frequency components (e.g., transformer, diodes) away from the low-frequency components (e.g., input capacitors, output filter).
Choose a transformer with a turns ratio that matches the input and output voltage requirements. Ensure the transformer's core material and design can handle the frequency and power requirements. TI recommends a transformer with a magnetizing inductance of at least 10 μH.
The UC2879DW can handle up to 100 W of output power, but this depends on the specific application, input voltage, and transformer design. Ensure the IC and surrounding components can handle the maximum output current and power.
Use an external current sense resistor (Rcs) to monitor the output current. The UC2879DW has a built-in overcurrent protection (OCP) circuit that can be triggered by an external signal. Set the OCP threshold by selecting the appropriate Rcs value.
