  • The UC2854BNG4 is a high-frequency switching regulator, and proper PCB layout is crucial for its operation. TI recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and the use of vias to connect the top and bottom layers. Keep the switching node (SW) and the input capacitors close to the IC, and use a Kelvin connection for the sense resistors. Refer to the TI application note SLUA144 for more detailed guidelines.

  • The inductor selection depends on the output voltage, current, and switching frequency. TI recommends using a shielded inductor with a low DC resistance and high saturation current. The inductor value should be chosen to ensure the desired output voltage and current ripple. Use the TI inductor selection tool or consult the application note SLUA144 for guidance.

  • The UC2854BNG4 has an absolute maximum input voltage rating of 30V. However, the recommended operating input voltage range is 12V to 28V. Exceeding the maximum rating can damage the IC.

  • The output voltage of the UC2854BNG4 can be adjusted by changing the resistive divider ratio of the feedback network (R1 and R2). The output voltage is calculated using the formula: Vout = 1.25V x (1 + R2/R1). Ensure that the resistors are of high precision and low tolerance to maintain output voltage accuracy.

  • The bootstrap capacitor (CBOOT) is used to generate the gate drive voltage for the high-side FET. It is charged through the bootstrap diode (DBOOT) during the off-time of the high-side FET. The recommended value for CBOOT is 10nF to 22nF, and it should be placed close to the IC.
