The UC2823N is a high-frequency device, and proper layout and placement are crucial for its operation. TI recommends placing the device close to the power supply, using short traces, and minimizing loop areas to reduce EMI. A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane is recommended. Additionally, decoupling capacitors should be placed close to the device pins.
The output filter components (L and C) should be chosen based on the desired output voltage ripple, output current, and switching frequency. TI provides a filter design tool and application notes to help with component selection. Generally, a higher inductance value and a lower capacitance value are recommended for better noise reduction.
The UC2823N has an absolute maximum input voltage rating of 18V. However, the recommended operating input voltage range is 10V to 15V. Exceeding the maximum input voltage can damage the device.
The UC2823N does not have built-in OVP. However, OVP can be implemented using an external voltage monitor IC, such as the TLV7031, which can detect overvoltage conditions and shut down the UC2823N. Alternatively, a simple voltage divider and comparator circuit can also be used to detect overvoltage conditions.
The UC2823N requires a minimum input capacitance of 10uF to ensure stable operation. However, a higher input capacitance value (e.g., 22uF) is recommended to reduce input voltage ripple and improve overall performance.
