A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the signal traces short and away from the power planes. Use a common mode filter and a shielded cable to minimize EMI.
Use a thermal pad or a heat sink to keep the junction temperature below 125°C. Ensure good airflow and avoid blocking the airflow around the device. Use a thermally conductive material for the PCB and avoid using the device near heat sources.
Use ESD protection devices such as TVS diodes or ESD arrays on the USB lines. Ensure that the ESD protection devices are rated for the maximum voltage and current of the USB bus. Use a shielded cable and a common mode filter to minimize EMI.
Use a power sequencer or a voltage regulator to ensure that the VBUS and VCC pins are powered up and down in the correct sequence. Use a voltage regulator with a low dropout voltage to minimize power consumption.
Use a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 compatible PHY and ensure that the device is configured correctly for the desired USB standard. Use a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 compatible cable and connector.
