A good PCB layout practice is to keep the sensor away from other components, avoid routing traces under the sensor, and use a ground plane to reduce noise. Ams OSRAM provides a recommended PCB layout in their application note AN001.
Use a low-pass filter, such as a 100nF capacitor, between the VCC pin and GND to reduce noise. Also, keep the sensor away from high-frequency components and use a ground plane to shield the sensor from electromagnetic interference.
Ams OSRAM recommends calibrating the sensor in a dark room with a known light source. Measure the output voltage at different light levels and create a lookup table or use a calibration algorithm to convert the output voltage to lux values.
Use the sensitivity values provided in the datasheet to convert the output voltage to lux values. For example, the sensitivity at 200 lux is 0.034 mV/lux, so if the output voltage is 1.7V, the lux value would be approximately 500 lux.
The TSL25723FN can operate from -40°C to 85°C, but the accuracy of the light measurements may degrade at extreme temperatures. Ams OSRAM recommends operating the sensor between 0°C to 60°C for optimal performance.
