STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in the application note AN5096, which includes guidelines for thermal pad connection, copper pouring, and via placement to ensure optimal thermal performance.
The thermal shutdown feature is enabled by default, but it can be disabled by connecting the TSD pin to VCC. When enabled, the device will shut down when the junction temperature exceeds 150°C. It's essential to ensure proper thermal design and heat sinking to prevent thermal shutdown.
STMicroelectronics recommends using a 10uF to 22uF X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor with a voltage rating of 10V or higher for the input capacitor. The capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the VIN pin to ensure proper decoupling.
To ensure stability, it's essential to follow the recommended PCB layout, use the correct input and output capacitors, and ensure that the output voltage is properly decoupled. Additionally, the device's output should be loaded with a minimum of 1mA to prevent oscillations.
The maximum allowed voltage on the EN pin is 6V. Exceeding this voltage may damage the device. It's recommended to use a voltage divider or a buffer stage to ensure the EN pin voltage remains within the specified range.
