The TPS5420D can handle input voltages up to 42V, but it's recommended to keep it below 40V for reliable operation.
The inductor value depends on the output voltage, output current, and switching frequency. A good starting point is to use the inductor selection guide in the datasheet or use TI's WEBENCH tool to find the optimal inductor value.
The EN (enable) pin is used to turn the converter on and off. Connect it to a logic high (e.g., VCC) to enable the converter, and connect it to a logic low (e.g., GND) to disable it.
The output voltage is set using the feedback resistors (RFBT and RFB) and the internal reference voltage (0.8V). Use the formula in the datasheet to calculate the resistor values for the desired output voltage.
The TPS5420D can deliver up to 2A of output current, but the actual current limit depends on the input voltage, output voltage, and thermal conditions.
