TI recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane on the bottom layer, and a separate power plane for the input and output voltages. Keep the input and output capacitors close to the device, and use short, wide traces for the power lines.
To ensure stability, use a minimum output capacitance of 10uF, and a maximum ESR of 1 ohm. Also, place a 1nF to 10nF capacitor between the VOUT and GND pins to filter out high-frequency noise.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 5.5V, TI recommends limiting the input voltage to 5V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the device.
The output voltage ripple can be calculated using the formula: ΔVOUT = (IOUT * ESL) / (COUT * fSW), where IOUT is the output current, ESL is the equivalent series inductance of the output capacitor, COUT is the output capacitance, and fSW is the switching frequency.
The EN (enable) pin is used to turn the device on and off. Connect the EN pin to a logic high (VIN or VOUT) to enable the device, and to a logic low (GND) to disable it. Use a pull-down resistor to ensure the device is disabled during power-up and power-down.
