Texas Instruments recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and to keep the analog and digital grounds separate. The input and output traces should be kept short and away from noise sources. A dedicated analog power supply is also recommended.
The thermal shutdown feature is designed to protect the device from overheating. If the device exceeds the thermal shutdown temperature (typically 150°C), it will shut down. To handle this, ensure good thermal design, use a heat sink if necessary, and monitor the device temperature using the THERM pin.
The recommended input capacitance is 10nF to 100nF, and the recommended output capacitance is 10nF to 100nF. However, the optimal capacitance values may vary depending on the specific application and layout.
To ensure a stable operating condition during power-up, Texas Instruments recommends a soft-start circuit to limit the inrush current and prevent oscillations. A capacitor on the VCC pin can also help to filter out noise and ensure a stable power-up.
The maximum allowed voltage on the REF pin is VCC + 0.3V. Exceeding this voltage can cause damage to the device.
