Semtech recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane on the bottom layer, and a separate power plane for the SM100's VCC and GND pins. Additionally, keep the RF traces as short as possible and use 50-ohm impedance matching to minimize signal reflections.
To ensure reliable communication, make sure to follow the LoRaWAN specification, use the correct spreading factor and bandwidth, and implement a robust error correction mechanism. Also, ensure that the SM100 is properly configured and calibrated, and that the antenna is properly matched and oriented.
The maximum transmit power of the SM100 is +20 dBm. You can adjust the transmit power by using the PA_BOOST pin to select between high power and low power modes, or by using the SX1276's internal power amplifier control registers to set the output power to a specific value.
The SM100 supports frequency hopping through the use of the SX1276's built-in frequency synthesizer. You can implement frequency hopping by using the SX1276's registers to set the hop frequency and dwell time, and by using the DIO pins to synchronize the frequency hopping with other LoRa devices.
The typical current consumption of the SM100 is around 30 mA in transmit mode and 10 mA in receive mode. To reduce power consumption, you can use the SM100's low-power modes, such as sleep mode or standby mode, and optimize your application's duty cycle and transmission frequency.
