RECOM recommends a PCB layout with a large copper area for heat dissipation, and a minimum of 2oz copper thickness. A thermal via array under the module can also improve heat transfer.

To ensure reliable start-up, RECOM recommends a soft-start circuit or a ramp-up of the input voltage to prevent inrush currents. Additionally, a minimum input capacitance of 10uF is recommended.

The maximum allowed capacitance on the output is 47uF. Exceeding this value may cause instability or oscillations in the converter.

While the R-785.0-0.5 is rated for operation up to 80°C, RECOM recommends derating the output power by 2.5% per degree above 60°C to ensure reliable operation.

RECOM recommends using a TVS diode or a voltage clamp circuit to protect the converter from input voltage transients. A fuse or a current limiter can also be used to prevent damage from overcurrent conditions.
