A good thermal design should include a solid ground plane, thermal vias under the IC, and a heat sink if possible. Refer to Microchip's application note AN1123 for more details.
Ensure that the input voltage rises monotonically during start-up, and falls slowly during shutdown. A soft-start circuit can help with this. Also, ensure that the input capacitor is properly sized to handle inrush current.
The maximum allowed input voltage ripple is 10% of the nominal input voltage. Exceeding this can cause instability or damage to the IC.
Yes, but ensure that the junction temperature (TJ) does not exceed 150°C. Use a heat sink and thermal interface material to keep the junction temperature within limits.
