Microchip recommends a 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane, and placing the ADC near the analog signal sources. Decoupling capacitors should be placed close to the VDD and VREF pins. A dedicated analog ground plane is also recommended.
The MCP3221A7T-E/OT has an internal calibration mechanism. Apply a known input voltage to the ADC, and use the calibration register to adjust the offset and gain. Refer to the datasheet for the calibration procedure.
The maximum sampling rate of the MCP3221A7T-E/OT is 22,000 samples per second. Increasing the sampling rate increases power consumption, but the device can operate at lower sampling rates to reduce power consumption.
The MCP3221A7T-E/OT has a sleep mode that reduces power consumption. To wake up the device, toggle the CS pin or apply a rising edge to the CONV pin. The wake-up time is approximately 2 μs.
The recommended input signal range is 0 to VREF (2.5V or 4.096V). The input impedance should be less than 1 kΩ to ensure accurate conversions.
