MCP23S17T-E/SSVAO Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • The maximum frequency of the SPI interface is 10 MHz. However, it's recommended to operate at a frequency of 5 MHz or less to ensure reliable communication.

  • You can use the CS (Chip Select) pin to select which device to communicate with. Each device should have a unique CS pin connection to the microcontroller. When the CS pin is low, the device is selected, and when it's high, the device is deselected.

  • The RESET pin is used to reset the device to its default state. When the RESET pin is low, the device is reset, and all registers are set to their default values. The RESET pin should be tied to a logic high level during normal operation.

  • The GPIO pins can be configured as inputs or outputs by writing to the IODIR (I/O Direction) register. A '0' in the IODIR register sets the corresponding pin as an output, while a '1' sets it as an input.

  • The maximum current that can be sourced or sunk by the GPIO pins is 25 mA. However, it's recommended to limit the current to 10 mA or less to ensure reliable operation and prevent overheating.
