  • The MCP23S08 can handle SPI clock frequencies up to 10 MHz.

  • The MCP23S08 can be configured for 8-bit or 16-bit port expansion by setting the IOCON.BANK bit. When IOCON.BANK = 0, the device is in 8-bit mode, and when IOCON.BANK = 1, the device is in 16-bit mode.

  • The HAEN (Hardware Address Enable) bit in the IOCON register enables or disables the hardware address pins (A0, A1, A2). When HAEN = 1, the hardware address pins are enabled, and when HAEN = 0, they are disabled.

  • The MCP23S08 can be reset by pulling the RESET pin low for a minimum of 1 ms. The device will also reset when the power supply voltage falls below the minimum operating voltage.

  • The MCP23S08 can sink or source up to 25 mA per I/O pin.
