  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the input and output capacitors close to the IC, and use short, wide traces for the high-current paths.

  • Use a soft-start circuit to limit the inrush current during startup, and ensure the input voltage ramps up slowly. During shutdown, use a voltage supervisor to ensure the input voltage decays slowly to prevent voltage spikes.

  • A low-ESR ceramic capacitor with a value of 10uF to 22uF is recommended. The capacitor should be placed close to the VIN pin and have a voltage rating of at least 2x the maximum input voltage.

  • Use a combination of ceramic and electrolytic capacitors to achieve a low output impedance. The output filter should be designed to provide a minimum of 20dB attenuation at the switching frequency.

  • The MAX5868EXE+ is rated for operation from -40°C to +125°C. However, the device's performance and reliability may degrade at temperatures above 85°C.
