  • To minimize EMI and ensure reliable operation, it is recommended to follow a star-grounding scheme, keep the device as close to the connector as possible, and use a solid ground plane. Additionally, use short, direct traces for the RS-232 signals and avoid crossing signal lines.

  • The charge pump capacitors (C1 and C2) should be placed as close to the device as possible, with a value of 1uF to 10uF. The capacitors should be rated for at least 6.3V and have an ESR of less than 1 ohm.

  • The maximum cable length supported by the MAX3223ECAP+T is dependent on the baud rate and cable quality. As a general guideline, the maximum cable length is approximately 50 feet at 9600bps, 20 feet at 19,200bps, and 10 feet at 38,400bps.

  • To ensure reliable operation in a noisy environment, it is recommended to use a shielded cable, add a common-mode choke or ferrite bead to the RS-232 lines, and use a ground plane to reduce radiated emissions.

  • The recommended power-up sequence is to apply VCC first, followed by V+ and V-. During power-down, the sequence should be reversed. This ensures that the device is properly biased and minimizes the risk of latch-up.
