The maximum input voltage for the LM317AT is 40V, but it's recommended to keep it below 35V for reliable operation.
The output voltage of the LM317AT can be adjusted by using a resistor divider network between the output and adjustment pins. The formula to calculate the output voltage is Vout = 1.25 x (1 + R2/R1).
The LM317AT requires a minimum load current of 3.5mA to maintain regulation. If the load current is less than this, the output voltage may not be regulated properly.
No, the LM317AT is designed to regulate positive voltages only. If you need a negative voltage regulator, you should use a different device, such as the LM337.
To protect the LM317AT from overheating, ensure that it is properly heat-sinked, and that the input voltage is not excessive. You can also use a thermal shutdown circuit to turn off the regulator if it overheats.
