The recommended power-on sequence is to first power up the VDDIO pin, followed by the VDD pin. This ensures that the internal voltage regulators are properly initialized.
The self-test feature can be enabled by setting the ST bit in the CTRL_REG3 register. During self-test, the magnetometer will generate a known magnetic field internally, allowing you to verify the sensor's operation.
The internal temperature sensor can be used to compensate for temperature-related drift in the magnetometer's output. The temperature data can be read from the TEMP_OUT_H and TEMP_OUT_L registers.
The raw data from the LIS3MDLTR is in 16-bit two's complement format, with a sensitivity of 0.15 mgauss/LSB. You can convert the raw data to gauss units by multiplying by the sensitivity value.
A simple low-pass filter or a median filter can be used to reduce noise and improve the accuracy of the magnetometer data. The specific filtering approach will depend on the application requirements and noise characteristics.
