The maximum voltage that can be applied to the VIN+ and VIN- pins is ±26V, but it's recommended to keep it within ±20V for optimal performance and to prevent damage to the device.
Calibration involves writing a calibration register value to the device. The calibration value can be calculated using the formula provided in the datasheet, or by using the INA226AIDGSR Evaluation Module software tool provided by Texas Instruments.
The RSHUNT resistor is used to sense the current flowing through the shunt resistor. The value of RSHUNT should be chosen based on the maximum current expected in the application, and should be sized to produce a voltage drop of around 50mV at the maximum current.
To configure the INA226AIDGSR for bidirectional current measurement, the device should be set to differential mode, and the polarity of the current sense voltage should be monitored to determine the direction of current flow.
The ALERT pin is an open-drain output that can be used to indicate an overcurrent or undervoltage condition. The ALERT pin can be connected to a microcontroller or other logic device to trigger an interrupt or take other action in response to an alert condition.
