  • Fairchild recommends a thermal pad on the bottom of the package, connected to a large copper area on the PCB to dissipate heat. A minimum of 2oz copper thickness is recommended, and the thermal pad should be connected to a ground plane to reduce thermal resistance.

  • To ensure reliable operation at high temperatures, Fairchild recommends following the recommended operating conditions, using a heat sink if necessary, and ensuring good thermal conductivity between the device and the heat sink. Additionally, the device should be operated within the specified junction temperature range (TJ) of -40°C to 150°C.

  • The maximum allowed voltage on the input pins is 5.5V, which is the absolute maximum rating. However, for reliable operation, it's recommended to keep the input voltage within the recommended operating range of 4.5V to 5.5V.

  • Fairchild recommends using ESD protection devices, such as TVS diodes or ESD arrays, on the input lines to protect the FM803MS3X from electrostatic discharge. Additionally, handling the device by the body or using an anti-static wrist strap can help prevent ESD damage.

  • Fairchild recommends powering up the VCC pin before the VIN pin to ensure proper device operation. The power-up sequence should be: VCC, then VIN, and finally the input signals.
