The maximum voltage that can be applied to the VM pin is 50V, but it's recommended to keep it below 40V for reliable operation.
To configure the DRV8305NPHP for 3-phase motor control, connect the 3-phase motor windings to the OUTA, OUTB, and OUTC pins. Then, use the SPI interface to configure the device for 3-phase operation and set the desired motor control parameters.
The nFAULT pin is an active-low fault indicator that signals when the device has detected an overcurrent, overtemperature, or undervoltage condition. It can be used to trigger a system shutdown or alarm in case of a fault.
The DRV8305NPHP has built-in overcurrent protection. To implement it, connect a sense resistor in series with the motor windings and connect the sense resistor to the IS pin. The device will automatically detect overcurrent conditions and shut down the outputs if the current exceeds the programmed threshold.
For optimal performance and thermal management, it's recommended to follow a 4-layer PCB stackup with a dedicated power plane, a dedicated ground plane, and a thermal pad connected to the exposed pad of the QFN package. Keep the high-current paths short and wide, and use thermal vias to dissipate heat.
