ROHM recommends a thermal pad size of at least 2.5mm x 2.5mm, with multiple vias to the ground plane to ensure efficient heat dissipation. A minimum of 3mm clearance around the device is also recommended to prevent thermal coupling with adjacent components.
To ensure stable operation with a high-ESR output capacitor, ROHM recommends using a capacitor with an ESR of less than 100mΩ. Additionally, a 1μF ceramic capacitor in parallel with the output capacitor can help to improve stability.
The maximum allowed voltage on the EN pin is 6V. Exceeding this voltage may cause damage to the device. It's recommended to use a voltage limiter or a resistor divider network to ensure the EN pin voltage remains within the specified range.
While the BD54FA1FP3-ZTL is rated for operation up to 125°C, ROHM recommends derating the output current and voltage to ensure reliable operation in high-temperature environments. Consult the datasheet and ROHM's application notes for specific guidance.
To troubleshoot oscillation or instability issues, check the PCB layout for proper thermal design, ensure the output capacitor is properly selected and placed, and verify that the input voltage is within the specified range. Also, check for any noise or ripple on the input voltage and ensure that the device is not overheating.
