A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the analog and digital sections separate, and use a star topology for the power supply connections. Also, ensure that the RF traces are short and shielded.
The transmitter output power can be optimized by adjusting the PA_VCC voltage, the TX_GAIN register, and the TX_ATTEN register. Additionally, the output power can be optimized by using an external power amplifier or a directional coupler.
A parallel-resonant crystal oscillator circuit is recommended, with a 10-20 pF load capacitance and a 1-2 kΩ series resistor. Ensure the crystal oscillator circuit is placed close to the ADF7021BCPZ, and use a low-ESR capacitor to minimize noise and ensure stability.
A POR circuit can be implemented using a voltage supervisor IC, such as the ADM691, which can detect the power supply voltage and generate a reset signal. Alternatively, a simple RC circuit can be used, but this may not be as reliable.
Key considerations for EMC include using a shielded enclosure, minimizing loop areas, using a common-mode choke, and ensuring that the PCB layout is optimized for EMC. Additionally, ensure that the ADF7021BCPZ is properly decoupled and that the power supply is filtered.
