A good PCB layout for the AD8138 involves keeping the input and output traces short and symmetrical, using a solid ground plane, and minimizing the distance between the device and the decoupling capacitors. A 4-layer PCB with a dedicated ground plane is recommended.
The gain resistors (Rf and Rg) should be chosen based on the desired gain and bandwidth of the amplifier. A higher gain requires smaller resistors, while a lower gain requires larger resistors. The datasheet provides a gain resistor calculator to help with the selection.
The maximum input voltage that the AD8138 can handle is ±10V, which is the maximum differential input voltage. Exceeding this voltage can cause damage to the device.
The AD8138 has a built-in filter that can be enabled by connecting a capacitor between the FLTR pin and ground. The value of the capacitor determines the filter cutoff frequency. Additional external filtering can be added using passive components such as resistors and capacitors.
The power consumption of the AD8138 depends on the supply voltage and the output load. The typical quiescent current is 12mA, and the maximum power consumption is 120mW at a supply voltage of ±5V.
