A good PCB layout for the AD8131 involves keeping the input and output traces short and symmetrical, using a solid ground plane, and minimizing the distance between the device and the decoupling capacitors. A 4-layer PCB with a dedicated ground plane is recommended.
The gain resistors (Rf and Rg) should be chosen based on the desired gain and bandwidth of the amplifier. A higher gain requires smaller resistors, while a lower gain requires larger resistors. The datasheet provides a gain resistor calculator to help with the selection.
The maximum input voltage that the AD8131 can handle is ±10V, which is the maximum differential input voltage. Exceeding this voltage can cause damage to the device.
The AD8131 has a built-in low-pass filter that can be used to filter out high-frequency noise. The filter cutoff frequency can be adjusted by changing the value of the capacitor connected to the FLTR pin. Additional external filtering may be required depending on the specific application.
The power-down mode of the AD8131 is a low-power state that reduces the current consumption of the device. To enter power-down mode, the EN pin should be driven low. In this mode, the device consumes only 10 μA of current, making it suitable for battery-powered applications.
