  • Texas Instruments recommends a 2-layer PCB with a solid ground plane on the bottom layer and a thermal relief pattern on the top layer to minimize thermal resistance. A minimum of 2 oz copper thickness is recommended for optimal thermal performance.

  • To ensure stable operation with a high-ESR output capacitor, it is recommended to add a small ceramic capacitor (e.g., 10nF) in parallel with the output capacitor to provide a low-ESR path for high-frequency noise. Additionally, the output capacitor should be placed close to the TP3057N to minimize parasitic inductance.

  • Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 18V, it is recommended to limit the input voltage to 15V to ensure reliable operation and prevent damage to the internal components.

  • The output voltage ripple can be calculated using the following formula: ΔVout = (Iout * ESL) / (Cout * fsw), where ESL is the equivalent series inductance of the output capacitor, Cout is the output capacitance, and fsw is the switching frequency. A lower output voltage ripple can be achieved by using a low-ESL output capacitor and increasing the output capacitance.

  • A low-ESR input capacitor with a value of 10uF to 22uF is recommended to filter out input voltage noise and ensure stable operation. A ceramic or film capacitor with an X7R or X5R dielectric is suitable for this application.
