A good PCB layout for optimal thermal performance would be to have a solid ground plane on the bottom layer, and to use thermal vias to connect the thermal pad of the SST2907AHZGT116 to the ground plane. This helps to dissipate heat efficiently.
To ensure the stability of the output voltage, it is recommended to use a capacitor with a low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and a high capacitance value (e.g. 10uF or higher) at the output of the regulator. Additionally, the input capacitor should be placed as close to the VIN pin as possible.
Although the datasheet specifies a maximum input voltage of 18V, it is recommended to limit the input voltage to 15V or less to ensure reliable operation and to prevent damage to the internal circuitry.
While the SST2907AHZGT116 is rated for operation up to 125°C, it is recommended to derate the output current and input voltage at high temperatures to ensure reliable operation. Consult the datasheet for specific derating guidelines.
To protect the SST2907AHZGT116 from overcurrent and overheating, it is recommended to add an external current limiting resistor or a fuse in series with the input voltage, and to use a thermal monitoring circuit to shut down the regulator in case of overheating.
