  • A 4-layer PCB with a solid ground plane and a separate power plane is recommended. Keep the PLL loop filter components close to the device and use a star topology to minimize noise. Refer to the ADI application note AN-873 for more details.

  • The charge pump current (Icp) should be set based on the desired phase noise performance and the output frequency. A higher Icp reduces phase noise but increases current consumption. Start with the recommended value of 2.5mA and adjust based on your application's requirements.

  • The maximum frequency deviation is ±50 ppm over the operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. This deviation is due to the internal voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and can be calibrated out using an external reference clock.

  • Ensure a clean power-up sequence by applying Vcc before enabling the chip (EN pin). Wait for the power-on reset (POR) to complete (typically 10ms) before configuring the device. Refer to the datasheet for the recommended power-up sequence.

  • Use a 3-wire serial interface (SPI) to program the device. Ensure the serial clock frequency is between 100 kHz and 5 MHz, and the serial data is clocked in on the rising edge of the clock signal.
