  • A good layout and PCB design for the AD8616 involves keeping the input and output traces short and away from noise sources, using a solid ground plane, and decoupling the power supply pins with capacitors. A 4-layer PCB with a dedicated analog ground plane is recommended. See the AD8616 evaluation board layout as a reference.

  • The gain resistors (Rf and Rg) should be chosen based on the desired gain, bandwidth, and noise requirements. A good starting point is to use the gain resistor calculator tool on the Analog Devices website or to consult the AD8616 datasheet for recommended values. The resistors should be 1% or better tolerance and have a low temperature coefficient.

  • The maximum power dissipation of the AD8616 is limited by the package thermal resistance (θJA) and the maximum junction temperature (TJ). For the AD8616ARM-R2, the maximum power dissipation is approximately 670mW at 25°C ambient temperature, assuming a θJA of 125°C/W and a TJ of 150°C.

  • Yes, the AD8616 can be used as a unity-gain buffer by connecting the output directly to the inverting input (i.e., Rf = 0Ω and Rg = ∞Ω). However, this configuration may not provide the best noise performance, and the input impedance may not be high enough for some applications.

  • To protect the AD8616 from EMI, use a shielded enclosure, keep the input and output traces short, and use a common-mode choke or ferrite bead on the input lines. Additionally, use a low-pass filter or a shielded cable to connect the input signal to the AD8616.
